First, let's talk about the Jurlique. Many of you will be familiar with Jurlique. Jurlique is an Australian skincare brand that has been developing biodynamic beauty products since 1985 - meaning that their ingredients mostly come from plant extracts. Jurlique has a herb farm in Adelaide, Australia where they use organic and sustainable methods to farm and harvest the ingredients they require for their products, including rose, lavender and calendula. For the people who love their botanical, organic products, Jurlique may well be a brand worth considering.
The Rose Moisture Plus line is one of Jurlique's top selling lines, and in particular, I fell in love with their Moisturising Cleanser. According to Jurlique's website:
"This lightly whipped texture cleanser with Rose Hip Oil helps improve skin moisture levels, skin clarity and smoothness. Willow Bark Extract and Pumice lightly exfoliates to finely polish and smooth. This effective cleanser leaves skin feeling hydrated, protected and radiant."
A bit of background information on my skin - I have extremely dehydrated skin, meaning I have dry cheeks and a rather oily T-zone and I highly rely on my cleansers to avoid makeup /skincare residue which as we all know, results in clogged pores. Keeping my skin as hydrated as possible is also my top priority.
The cleanser comes in a squeeze tube and the texture is a little harder than whipped cream, but can easily be spread out - it doesn't take a whole lot to cleanse the entire face properly. The pearly sheen that you may or may not be able to see in the photo above is actually micro-beads that very lightly exfoliates as you spread it across your face. Together with the divine signature smell of roses in Jurlique's Rose Moisture Plus line, it is an amazing product that allows you to feel like you're truly pampering yourself whilst thoroughly cleansing your face.
As this is a cleanser and not an exfoliator, it can be used daily. Daily use will not cause over-exfoliating that may damage your skin. Personally, I love using this in the morning to gently cleanse my face of any residue night-time skincare that may exist and enjoy the divine scent that this cleanser carries, prepping my skin for make-up application and myself for the busy day ahead.
With that said, Jurlique comes with a pretty high price tag. The Rose Moisture Plus Moisturizing Cleanser is HK$250 for 100ml. I bought the cleanser as part of the Christmas set and I am just almost running out now, lasting me about 6 months. I also love that the squeeze tube packaging allows you to get every last drop of product. Will definitely repurchase!
Hada Labo
Let's now move on to the Hada Labo Mild Foaming Cleanser (translated from the Chinese written on the bottom of the bottle). There are many bloggers raving about Hada Labo in Hong Kong and other areas of Asia and I have finally went out and got myself a product to test.
Hada Labo is a Japanese drugstore brand that can be commonly found in pharmacies around HK such as Mannings. It is a skincare brand under the Mentholatum Company, that most should be familiar with. The top selling product of Hada Labo is probably its Super Hyaluronic Moisturizing Lotion, that I have yet to try. Going back to the cleanser, for a drugstore brand, it does not come cheap at around HK$80, though there are often random discounts - so I suggest not buying until you see a discount! If you're outside of Hong Kong, the cleanser may be purchased on YesStyle.com (link below.)
The cleanser comes in a pump bottle, which is awesome. The only downside being the bottle is an opaque baby blue and you will not be able to see how much product remains inside. As you can see from the bottle, the main ingredients of the cleanser are AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and BHA (or Beta Hydroxy Acid). AHA in low concentrations mainly assists exfoliation and BHA (a well known form of BHA being salicylic acid), has anti-acne functions. As it is a foaming cleanser, I use one pump of this with my Clarisonic Mia 2 at night after I take off my make-up, and I have seen a rather huge difference with the pores on the corners of my nose. It took about two consecutive nights of to see an effect and my hormonal acne has also been kept at bay from using this cleanser.
Another unexpected downside to this cleanser is the horrible smell. I'm not sure if any of you use the ever so popular B5/Hyaluronic acid gels from brands like Skinceutical. This cleanser carries a smell just like that. For me, I usually try not to breathe when I am applying this to my face. I am not feeling much of any moisturising properties in this cleanser either, even though it doesn't dry me out, my skin does feel a bit tight after about 15 minutes of not applying any moisturiser. However, all in all, I am glad that I have found such a great alternative to all the high end skincare products that is actually a good substitute as a night time cleanser.
So both cleansers are great products, but if I had to repurchase one, it will probably be the Jurlique!
Has anyone tried these two cleansers? How did you like it?
